Here is what you'll need:
Acrylic Yarn
Cat brush
Hair straightener
Any long, thin object (Stick, barbeque skewer, paintbrush, etc)
Many hours
Turning Yarn into Hair

First, cut your acrylic yarn into sections and tie it to a stick of some sort. I wouldn't use more than 3-4 strings in a bunch. The thicker they are, you won't get the hair as flat and straight as you want it.

This next step is optional, but you're going to get the most usable material if you do it. And that is to unravel the yarn. If you brush without unraveling, you'll get more tangles and bunches that need to be cut off.
After this step, brush the yarn out with the cat brush. You'll lose a lot of material and length, but this is normal.

Lastly, use your hair straightener on the brushed-out yarn, and you have awesome hair that is posable and to scale with dolls and action figures!
For more info on making wigs or rerooting, I have a few other blog posts that explain both and more!
