The Best Places to Find Dolls and Action Figures to Repaint

As a repainter, it can get pretty expensive to buy dolls and action figures, especially if you're not making your money back by selling them. Here are the best places to build up your inventory without spending too much.

1. Yard Sales.

Yard Sales are my #1 place to find great dolls and action figures. I once found $75 worth of Barbies for $1.50 in one trip.

Action figures can also be incredibly expensive new or on eBay, but at yard sales, you'll often find them for $1 or less. Summer is prime time to load up on hundreds of dollars worth of toys for peanuts. Just look for the yard sale signs.

2. Google Shopping

Whether you're on Google or some other browser, there is a handy "shopping" tab that you can click on. When you search for something, this section will compare the prices of every online vendor that carries what you're looking for.

3. eBay

eBay is great for buying in bulk. When I first got into repainting, I bought a lot of 30 Monster High dolls for $60. I sold one repainted doll, made my money back, and the other 29 dolls were profit.

4. Thrift Stores

I have never had any luck with my local Good Wills personally, but Hextian always manages to strike dolly gold every time he goes to his. It can't hurt to look.

5. 5 Below

5 Below actually has a surprising amount of great dolls to choose from. For a long time, they carried Wonder Woman dolls with these killer face molds and awesome accessories. I've gotten BTS dolls there and Princess Leia dolls that come with an extra outfit, accessories, and either an Ewok or R2-D2.

And if you're just looking for some cheapy cheap Barbies, Monster Highs, or Disney dolls to practice on, they have those too.
